Vision Fountain convert 2-d images, portraits, archives and other imagery into virtual 3-d (2.5-d parallax).
Archives are brought back to life. Images that were taken long before the advent of film can be revitalized using the 2.5-d parallax method, followed by some careful image animations.
The short video below is constructed from an image taken in 1905 by Stephen Timothy.
Originally one of a series of postcards that show colliers working by hand in Ton Pentre, Rhondda Valley, Wales, the images have been re-imagined via Arts Council of Wales Research and Development funding and kindly provided by The National Library of Wales.
The image below was taken at Pantyffynnon Colliery near Ammanford, Carmarthenshire over 90 years ago, and shows miners as they ascend after their shift. The safety lamps are still on and sparkling. We have placed the image into a 3-d space and animated some of the miners.
Animated archive stills of Elliot Colliery, New Tredegar, Rhymney Valley, South Wales, provided by the Winding House Museum. The images will become part of the digital installation to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Elliot’s closure.
