Last Voices of the Rhondda opened at Rhondda Heritage Park 22nd Feb 2022. We were able to invite most of the miners and other members of the community who took part in the project.
The exhibition was opened by the Mayor of Rhondda Cynon Taff, Wendy Treeby. The wonderful staff at Rhondda Heritage Park that made a huge contribution to the project including Darren Macy, Kath Lewis and Esta Lewis as well as well as several staff members fom the Hafod, Maerdy and Parc – all Primary Schools from the Rhondda valley.
The project mixes oral histories with 3D portraits. We introduced the 3D technology, that is also used in gaming, to the young learners, via 3D portraiture. after listening to the oral histories of local miners thev children were inspired to create wonderful mixed media portraits based of their local miners.
“The level of engagement from the children through out the project, along with the level of engagement of miners from the local community, resulted in outstanding finished mixed-media works, that formed the centre-piece of the project.” Said Richard Jones, Vision Fountain’s Creative Director.
