Today at the Senedd, we opened a powerful and moving multi-media exhibition celebrating the rich diversity of communities who have made Wales their home.

The exhibition features descendants of Italians who walked to Wales in the 1920s, Yemeni families who lost loved ones while supporting the D-Day landings, and Iraqi Kurds who settled here in the 1970s.
We met Sikh doctors who arrived in the same decade, Hindus who came from India via Kenya, Ukrainians forced to flee after the Russian invasion, and Hong Kongers seeking refuge as their freedoms were increasingly restricted — among many others.

It was a truly uplifting celebration of the varied histories and contributions that shape modern Wales.

The exhibition was formally opened by AM Julie Morgan, and the Deputy Mayor of Cardiff, Michael Michaels, shared his personal experience of arriving in Wales from Cyprus as a child.

Creative Director Richard Jones spoke about the importance of building bridges between communities and outlined plans to take the exhibition on the road in a pop-up format, bringing it to more isolated parts of Wales.

A big thank you to all those who have taken part and all those who have helped shape the exhibition.
