The lower level of the old miners community hall, The Parc and Dare in Treorchy, was packed for the opening of the Dragon’s Dream, animated film project, 12th Nov 2019.
Gelli Primary school and Penyrenglyn Primary Schools took part in the 10 -month project that was funded by Arts Council Wales, through the Welsh Government’s Creative Learning Initiative, which brings arts based interventions to stimulate young learners.
Both films that were produced were wonderful, with each school producing the story line, the characters, the narrative, all of the drawings and even the background sounds.
Drawing, photography, animation, voice and sound recording and even face recognition software was used to produce the work.
With all of the pupils, that had been involved, parents, school heads, class teachers, school governors, and members of Rhondda Cynon Taff Arts Services in attendance, the project was deemed a “great success” and a “unique opportunity” for all of the children “to increase their digital compentance, numeracy and literacy through this wonderful project”.
Vision Fountain’s creative director, Richard Jones, said, “An arts intervention like this, in one of the more isolated areas of South Wales, goes to show what these young people are capable of, and I applaud the Arts Council of Wales and Welsh Government for making it possible. But mostly I applaud the young learners for embracing the opportunity and allowing their artistic sides shine.”
