We are lucky that we have access to our photographic studio. We’ve been able to brush up some skills in 3-d scanning of objects. The process involves a variety of lighting techniques, depending upon the object being scanned. We generally opt for a carefully lit black-out studio or a lighting tent.

We are trying to scan objects of different surface luminescence and reflective qualities.

We are also attempting to scan objects of different sizes. The smallest we are attempting are coins, using a high quality macro lens. Coins offer a unique challenge due to their size and reflective qualities.

The quality of the source images that are fed into the software play a crucial role in determing ing the results. It is essential lighting is even and clear.

Our black-out studio set-up is below. We’ll be updating and providing some links to the objects as we can and process the data.
