It was a thrill to see Vision Fountain’s project “Last Generation of Coalminers” featured in the Heritage fund’s 10-year strategy. Inclusion of the project, felt like validation, not just of the project, but our over-all strategy of embedding our projects within communities and leveraging our audience through digital technology and the arts.

We strive to hit many of the points raised in the Heritage “vision” for 2033, especially with regard to “Saving Heritage” “Inclusion, Access and Participation” and “Organisational Sustainability”.

The project “Last Generation of Coalminers” worked in isolated areas of economic and social depravation, and was firmly embedded within the mining community.  We used digital technology and the arts to leverage young people towards their own heritage and we hope, we also ignited an interest in the technology we used. Technology that offers good job prospects. The projects were exhibited at Amgueddfa Cymru (Museum of Wales) and Rhondda Heritage Park and attracted over sixty thousand visitors.

Our current project, with the working title of, “UnTold Stories of Welsh Global Heritage” is more ambitious.  We are working with community story-telling and oral history, once again, but are also working with 3D modelling and virtual reality.  We will hold community workshops at a variety of locations including at additional needs  learning environments (ALN).
