We’re thrilled to announce the launch of our workshops for the UnTold Stories of Welsh Global Heritage project, where we are merging traditional arts with cutting-edge digital technology to bring lesser-known global stories to life.

The workshop journey began in two wonderful Additional Learning Needs Schools in Cardiff and Caerphilly – The Hollies and Trinity Fields. These schools are filled with talented young learners, supported by dedicated teachers who are fully engaged in creativity and the creative process.

In these first workshops, we introduced some of the captivating stories we’ve gathered for the project. The young learners were given the chance to select which story they’d like to focus on for their collages, allowing them to take ownership of their creative process.

We also gave the students a brief introduction to the exciting digital tools we’ll be using, including virtual reality headsets and a 360° video camera. The enthusiasm and engagement from the students was remarkable. A testament to the power of combining storytelling with interactive digital technology.

Talented artists, Craig and Adele, who specialize in murals, and work across a range of arts media, are lending their expertise to inspire the students’ creativity. Their guidance will help to bring the students’ ideas to life, sparking artistic expression.

Even though these were just introductory sessions, we were able to dive right in. The students created several beautiful drawings that are likely to feature in the final collage—several might even find their way into our virtual reality gallery!

This has been a promising start, and we can’t wait to see how these workshops unfold as the project progresses. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to explore these untold stories through the eyes of very talented young participants!
