Yesterday was full of excitement as young people from the Newport Yemeni Community Association stepped into the world of immersive video and virtual reality—most for the very first time!
They experienced some of immersive video created for “UnTold Stories of Welsh Global Heritage” project.

With family heritage from Yemen, Somaliland, Egypt, Syria, Pakistan, and beyond, we transported the young learners the diverse global heritage that exists in Wales. From Greek churches and Sikh and Hindu temples to Chinese New Year celebrations, Italian cafés, and of course the vibrant summer Yemeni festival. They experienced it all in bumber a 5-minute 360° video. The moment they saw friends, many couldn’t resist breaking into dance!

The fun didn’t stop there—many older volunteers also explored Wales’ rich history through the interactive virtual reality Welsh fossil library and the country’s first virtual reality coal mine. The young minds were eager to learn not just about culture but also asked pertinant questions about the technology behind immersive experiences.
A fantastic day of learning, laughter, technology and community!
Huge thanks to the volunteers who made it possible, with a special shout-out to the tireless and inspirational Reggie Al-Haddi. And as always, a massive thank you to National Lottery Players for making it all possible!
