It’s been a rewarding and eye-opening experience for everyone involved to work alongside Cwm Taf People’s First, with Rhondda Heritage Park and Museums Federation Wales. The project which centered around collections helps ensure that people with learning disabilities have their voices heard and their opinions represented within the museum’s collections.

Rhian Hall and Darren Macey designed and led workshops with members of Cwm Taf People’s First, which were recorded, filmed and photographed. The resulting material has now become part of the collection at Rhondda Heritage Park, helping preserve the participants’ views, experiences and responses for the future.

One unexpected surprise was to learn that several members from Cwm Taf People’s First have represented Wales in swimming and football. They told their stories and several wanted to donate some of their personal medals to the museum’s collection.

Vision Fountain’s work often focuses on inclusion, using a range of digital media to help ensure that all voices within communities are heard, and that everyone has the opportunity to engage with arts, heritage and culture.

Thank you to Darren Macey, Rhian Hall at Rhondda Heritage Park, Emma Alcock, and most importantly all the members of Cwm Taf People’s First who took part in the project. Funding for this project came from Welsh Government’s Diversity and Inclusion Grant.
