Archives & Animation

Vision Fountain convert 2-d images, portraits, archives and into virtual 3-d (2.5-d parallax).

Archives are brought back to life. Images that were taken long before the advent of film can be revitalized using the 2.5-d parallax method, followed by careful image animation.

The image below was taken at Pantyffynnon Colliery near Ammanford, Carmarthenshire over 90 years ago, and shows miners as they ascend after their shift. The safety lamps are sparkling. The image was re-imagined via Arts Council of Wales Research and Development funding. The image was kindly provided by The National Library of Wales.

Animated archive stills of Elliot Colliery, New Tredegar, Rhymney Valley, South Wales, provided by the Winding House Museum.  The images became part of the digital installation to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Elliot’s closure commisioned by The Winding House Museum and Caerphilly Council.

Vision Fountain work with young learners to create animated stories. The image below is from the Arts Council Wales’ Creative Lead Schools project in the Rhondda.

The animated film below was created at photography and animation workshops in the British Motor Museum as part of the “Motor Mouths” project.
