In addition to the captivating storytelling at Bargehouse OXO Tower, there are several Augmented Reality (AR) experiences available throughout London, including “Fleeting Figures,” which bridges the BFI and Bargehouse with an immersive outdoor exhibition.
“Fleeting Figures” is an exhibition featuring mostly acclaimed Swedish artists who seek to “create a collective experience in public spaces, focusing on what unites and connects us”.
To take part in Untold Garden’s “Fleeting Figures,” you need to download the “Meadow” app on your smartphone. The exhibition commences just outside the National Theatre.
First, you’ll encounter pink reindeer wandering amongst the masonry between the Theatre and the Thames. Berget Paselae, the artist, appears to have brought these reindeer to life, making them follow people. It may take a bit of adjustment, staring into your phone, but soon, you forget the phone’s presence. The artworks, i.e the pink reindeer, blend into the cityscape. This is precisely the intention, “The herd changes shape based on the number of concurrent global viewers, forming horde that ebbs and flows.”
Next exhbit and I found myself interacting with virtual bubbles, capturing and engaging with them using my iPhone. Surreal and entertaining .
About halfway to the OXO Tower, I encountered a famous Swedish cartoon character created by Oscar Haagstrom. The one-dimensional, floppy cartoon man and the playful instructions like “Do ten star jumps now” and “You are so lazy” added to the fun. I was becoming engrossed in my phone screen, as if the world beyond had ceased to exist.
The next artwork, crafted by SONG collective, held me spellbound. It showcased a collection of Swedish folklore figures, including a rather unsettling coiled worm, a cloaked figure, and a girl adorned in traditional Swedish clothes. As I interacted with these figures, I was bathed in a pink luminescent glow.
Untold Garden, a Swedish / London AR studio, who curated of the “Fleeting Figures” exhibition, also presented an artpiece; an interactive and fully participatory artwork titled “Social Echoes.” The artwork comprises text contributed by participants themselves that form the building blocks of a 3D word cloud. I had the opportunity to upload a few random thoughts from my phone and immediately witnessed them swirling around in front of me. According to Untold Garden’s Max Celar, “The messages are spatially organized within the cloud based on physical laws translated into the attention economy: the attentional weight of a text, i.e., how much it has been read and answered, affects its gravitational weight within the sculpture, which determines how the texts are positioned in relation to each other.” I.e. the more popular texts gain more prominence within the spatial 3D sculpture. This was the most captivating (and “most participatory”) artwork on display. At democratic artwork, where every audience member could contribute. Quite amazing.
The Fleeting Figures Augmented Reality (AR)offered a dynamic and interactive approach to engaging with participatory digital art, accessible to anyone with a smartphone. My first encounter with an augmented reality art exhibition will not be my last. – ends
Stori Gweledol yn LFF Expanded (1) AR
Yn ogystal â’r stori hudolus yn Bargehouse OXO Tower, mae sawl profiad Realiti Estynnol (AR) ar gael ledled Llundain, gan gynnwys “Ffigurau Ffuglennol,” sy’n cysylltu’r BFI a Bargehouse trwy brofiad gweledol.
“Mae ‘Ffigurau Ffuglennol’ yn arddangosfa sy’n cynnwys artistiaid a enillwyd eu clod am greu “profiad cyfunol mewn mannau cyhoeddus, gan ganolbwyntio ar yr hyn sy’n ein uno a’n cysylltu”.
I gymryd rhan yn “Ffigurau Ffuglennol” Untold Garden, yn gyntaf, lawrlwythwch y “App Meadow” ar eich smartphone. Mae’r arddangosfa yn dechrau y tu allan i Theatr Genedlaethol.
Yn gyntaf, byddwch yn dod ar draws ceirw pinc yn crwydro ymysg y maenar Theatr a’r Tafwys. Mae’n ymddangos fel bod Berget Paselae, yr artist, wedi dod â’r ceirw hyn yn fyw, gan eu dilyn â phobl. Efallai y bydd angen ychydig o addasu, gan weithio gyda’ch ffôn, ond yn fuan, byddwch yn anghofio bod y ffôn yno, ac mae’r gwaith celf yn cymysgu’n hawdd â thirwedd y ddinas. Dyma’n union beth oedd y bwriad, “Mae’r ddefaid yn newid eu siâp yn seiliedig ar nifer y gwyliwyr byd-eang ar y pryd, gan ffurfio horda fawr sy’n llifo a llethu drwy’r dydd.”
Yn dilyn y ceirw, fe welais fy hun yn rhyngweithio â sbwleni rhithwir, gan eu dal a’u defnyddio gyda fy iPhone. Roedd hyn yn brofiad rhyfeddol a difyr. Oddeutu hanner ffordd i Towr OXO, cwrddais â’r hyn a ddywedwyd wrthyf oedd cymeriad cartwn Sweden enwog a grëwyd gan Oscar Haagstrom. Efallai na ddeallais y hiwmor, ond roedd y dyn cartwn unflwydd, hyblyg a’r cyfarwyddiadau doniol fel “Gwneud deg sêr jumps nawr” a “Ydych chi’n hynod o ysgafn” yn ychwanegu at y hwyl. Roeddwn i’n dechrau ymgolli ychydig â sgrîn fy ffôn, bron fel petai’r byd y tu hwnt wedi dod i ben.
Roedd y gwaith celf nesaf, a gafodd ei greu gan Interwaeve y SONG collective, eto’n fy ngadael yn swyno wrth i mi edrych i mewn i’m iPhone. Roedd yn arddangos casgliad o’r hyn yr wyf yn credu yw ffigurau chwedlonol Sweden, gan gynnwys pryf coiled braidd annifyr, cymeriad wedi’i glogi, a merch wedi’i gwisgo mewn dillad gwerin Sweden traddodiadol. Wrth i mi ryngweithio â’r ffigurau hyn, ces i fy nghludo mewn golau pinc llachar.
Cyflwynodd Untold Garden, creadwr arddangosfa “Ffigurau Ffuglennol,” gwaith celf rhyngweithiol a chyfrannol yn llawn o’r enw “Sgyrsiau Cymdeithasol.” Mae’r gwaith celf hwn yn cynnwys testun a gyfrannwyd gan y cyfranogwyr eu hunain, gan greu rhannau adeiladu clud 3D. Cefais y cyfle i uwchlwytho rhai meddyliau ar hap o fy ffôn a’u gweld yn troelli o’m blaen. Yn ôl Untold Garden, “Caiff y negeseuon eu trefnu’n ofodol o fewn y cwmwl yn seiliedig ar y cyfreithiau ffisegol a gyfieithir i’r economi sylw: mae pwysau sylw testun, h.y., faint y mae wedi’i ddarllen a’i ymateb iddo, yn effeithio ar ei bwysau tarawiadol o fewn y cerflun, sy’n pennu sut mae’r testunau wedi’u lleoli mewn perthynas â’i gilydd.” Mewn termau symlach, mae’r testunau mwy poblogaidd yn ennill mwy o sylw o fewn y cerflun 3D gofodol. Yn fy marn i, dyma’r gwaith celf mwyaf swynol a chyfrannol ar y sioe.
Roedd profiad Realiti Estynnol (AR) “Ffigurau Ffuglennol” yn cynnig dull deinamig ac rhyngweithiol o ymgysylltu â chelf ddigidol cyfrannol. Llwythais a chyrhaeddais gynnwys penodol lleoliad ar fy iPhone yn hawdd. Roedd hwn yn arddangosfa ddiddorol ac yn hygyrch i unrhyw un â smartffôn. Dyma oedd fy nghyfarfod cyntaf â sioe gelf Realiti Estynnol, ac rwy’n sicr na fydd hyn yn fy mwnciolyn olaf. – Diwedd
