It was a pleasure to speak at the Conservation Matters 2023 Wales Conference Wednesday. I introduced the concept of putting collections into virtual reality experiences to give a WOW factor to our cultural heritage in order to engage with young learners. Everyone loved the donosaur in the fossil library!
The conference provided a platform to hear from Dr. Toby Jones, who shared insights about Newport’s Medieval Ship and the multitude of stories encapsulated within it. Rhian Thoms (Tiger Bay Heritage and Cultural Exchange) delivered an enlightening presentation on the recognized certification of communal value assets. Emily O’Reilly, an Independent Paper Conservator, provided a detailed account of the extraordinary efforts involved in preserving Victorian paper curtains. Plus speaker from Museum of Wales’s art restoration dept. and more….. And many young professionals dedicated to conservation attended and spoke. Marvellous! – Richard Jones
