Our multimedia project, “UnTold Stories of Welsh Global Heritage” shows the diversity of Welsh heritage. Using both innovative and traditional media, we’ve provided immersive experience that connect participants with the cultural diversity of Wales. According to the young learners, it was the first time, they’d been fully immersed in diverse Welsh culture.
The project features technology including virtual reality (VR) and 360° video, alongside traditional crafting methods. This combination allows participants to actively engage with the content, fostering a deeper connection and involvement in the project’s outcomes (An exhibition at the Senedd and touring multi-media exhibition).
Over the last month, we’ve conducted workshops in specialist additional learning needs (ALN) environments in Cardiff and Caerphilly, and with young learners in remote areas including the Rhondda Valley, Afan Valley, and Merthyr.
The introduction of immersive technology has generated excitement, as many young learners are experiencing the technology for the first time.
It’s been particularly inspiring to see the impact of curated 360° videos, which transport participants to events and celebrations within Wales’ diverse communities—exposing them to cultures mostly alien to them.
Through these technologies, we are bridging the gap between digital innovation and cultural storytelling, empowering marginalized communities to explore and engage with their heritage.
